NFPA's Electric Vehicle Safety Training project is a nationwide program to help firefighters and other first responders prepare for the growing number of electric vehicles on the road in the United States. This project is funded with a grant from the U.S. Department of Energy.
The training will help first responders identify electric vehicles and respond to common hazards. Training topics will include:
Risk of electric shock
Dangers of unintended vehicle movement
Handling new types of vehicle batteries
Fire extinguishment / overhaul
Challenges presented by charging stations
